War horse

From Afternoons, 2:09 pm on 23 April 2012

A horse will take centre stage at an Anzac Day service near Bulls on Wednesday. More than three-and-a-half thousand New Zealand horses served during World War I and only four returned. Among them was Bess, who's now buried beneath a memorial near the town. Fred MacDonald belongs to the Bess Society which is working to ensure the horse's legacy is not forgotten.
