After years of keeping it a secret, in 2007 Dr Elyn Saks wrote a successful memoir about her struggle with schizophrenia called 'The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness.' Recently, she's been asking for more public awareness and understanding for people with mental illnesses, and for health professionals not to underestimate the potential of people living with schizophrenia.
