Your Place - Okaihau

From Afternoons, 1:25 pm on 14 March 2013

A community of around 700, located 10 kilometres north of Kaikohe and 16 west of Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands. The settlement began in 1862 when Canadians cleared scrubland to build a small village near the Western shores of Lake Omapere in the Far North. It wasn't long before it became a hub for agricultural development. Once the northern-most rail terminus in the country, State Highway One now bisects the town.
