Banks Peninsula is mostly hilly farming country, but these days conservation sits alongside farming and tourism on the peninsula, and local farmers are some of the most ardent conservationists. Alison Ballance is on the wild eastern side of Banks Peninsula with Francis Helps, whose pioneering work to protect penguins on his farm at Flea Bay has assisted a conservation revolution on the peninsula.
