Buck Ballot

At the end of next month, four lucky buyers will be getting a slice of outback Queensland for the princely sum of one dollar, Australian. The land, in the tiny township of Richmond, northwest Queensland (current population 827) is being offered in 800 square-metre blocks in a bid to attract more settlers. Mayor of Richmond John Wharton is one of the driving forces behind the 'buck a block' ballot.
