Canterbury-based climber Guy McKinnon

From Afternoons, 2:10 pm on 23 July 2013

Imagine spending an evening up the top of a remote mountain in Fiordland overlooking the Tasman Sea that's shimmering like a plate of silver, and having the deep green bush below you, enjoying a view hardly any humans have enjoyed before. Climber Guy McKinnon did just that when he reached the top of Mt Tutoko, Fiordland's highest peak, a couple of weeks ago. He is the first solo climber to climb up the west face of the mountain and he celebrated his feat by camping out the night 100 metres from the summit.
