Statue returned to abbey of Monte Cassino

From Jesse Mulligan, 1–4pm, 2:10 pm on 7 August 2013

Nelson area artist Darryl Robertson has returned to New Zealand after returning a piece of history to the Abbey of Monte Cassino. Seventy years ago, when the New Zealanders were fighting in Cassino, a soldier took a small 16th or 17th century statue from the abbey. The son of the soldier asked Robertson to take the artifact back while he was in Europe on another quest.
