White Island erupts

Listeners in the Whakatane region might have been able to see plumes of white smoke issuing from their neighbourhood volcano this morning. GeoNet have confirmed that White Island erupted for about 10 minutes at around 10:20am. The column of steam produced by the eruption rose about two kilometres above the island. GNS volcanologist Steven Sherburn joins us.
