Your place - Omarama

From Afternoons, 1:26 pm on 21 November 2013

A small inland village, the name of which translates as a "Place of Light" - a reference to its extraordinary pure, clear skies. They are often blue as this district get less than 400 millimetres of precipitation annually. At 411 metres above sea level, craggy tops practically surround this little township. It's on the border of the Waitaki district, Mackenzie Country and Central Otago's Lakes District. It also sits at an important road junction where state Highway 8 meets Highway 38, the Waitaki Valley Road.
