A 78-year-old New Brighton resident who suffered injuries to her knee and both shoulders from a fall during the magnitude 5.9 aftershock in June 2011 has been refused ACC cover for the surgery she needs to regain her independence. Researchers, apalled at New Zealand's child-injury levels, say children should have to travel in car seats until they turn 12.
