Maori instrument maker - Tamihana Katene

From Afternoons, 2:22 pm on 17 June 2014

Porirua local Tamihana Katene is a computer software developer by day, but by night he can be found fashioning and playing taonga puoro - traditional Maori instruments. Making taonga puoro from scratch has been Tamihana's passion for ten years now, and he often finds his inspiration from shells, bones or pieces of wood, before turning them into flutes and trumpet-like musical instruments. Tamihana will be performing with the New Zealand String Quartet to mark Matariki.
