The first ANZAC ceremony

From Anzac Day, 2:11 pm on 21 April 2011

On Anzac Day 1916, the world's first Anzac ceremony was held on a rugged hillside overlooking the village of Tinui in the Wairarapa. Reverend Basil Ashcroft erected a wooden cross on the hill. It became the first memorial in the world permanently dedicated to the Anzacs killed at Gallipoli in the First World War .
