A veteran Maori union leader says the Government should launch a major house-building project to get Maori into work. The Education Minister has received the first submission from one of the Maori immersion schools in Christchurch rejecting a future merger. A Ngati Kahungunu leader who helped secure the iwi's first Treaty Settlement and establish their place in the fishing industry has stepped down as head of the iwi's business arm. The national body which oversees geographical name changes says it's not uncommon for iwis to want to pair English titles with ancestral areas.
