9:12 Regional Wrap

It's wet in the North Island but still a stunning autumn generally, and the South Island's looking fresh too. Plenty of feed and stock in good condition.

9:19 El dos Cadena Alpacas

A few years ago Maria Churchill only had two dogs on her 11 acre lifestyle block in Swannanoa, but one thing led to another and now she has a number of four legged creatures including Merinos, Alpacas and Chinchillas.

9:35 A Horse Of Course

In the summer months, all over the country, people gather with trusty steeds to trek over farmland and bush paths for anything from three days to a week or more. This week in Country Life Susan Murray joins 23 keen individuals who are on a five day horse trek around the Mahia Peninsula on the East Coast. This particular group has met every year for the past 17. The average age of the group is 60, and it includes a blind rider. Horse trekking is well and truly alive and kicking in rural New Zealand.

See photos from Susan's journey with the Taumarunui Intrepid Trekkers.
