Perth residents flee fires by boat

From Five O'clock Report, 5:08 pm on 7 January 2016

Wild fires are closing in on two small Western Australian communities, with people being ferried out by boat and others told to take refuge on the beaches. Residents in Waroona, and Preston Beach, just south of Perth, are being told to get out if they can as aerial fire fighting teams join ground crews to try to fight the blaze. The fire has blocked major roads, causing some residents to flee to the beaches. Conditions are exacerbating the problem with temperatures of 39 degrees and winds reaching up to sixty kilometres an hour. The ABC reporter Roxanne Taylor spoke to those affected.
