Not since the 1930s when Bertolt Brecht posed the question "Who is the bigger criminal: He who robs a bank, or he who founds one?", have the banks had such a bad rap internationally. Millions have taken to the streets of France to demand they be nationalised and the term "banksters" - popular during the Depression - is back in vogue.
In this programme we hear about Britain's Co-operative Bank which is going from strength to strength as other banks fall like ninepins, and we ask, are co-operatives part of the solution to the current financial crisis?
The programme features interviews with:
Russ Bradley of Britain's Cooperative Bank; Professor Alan Robb a Christchurch-based, international expert on co-operative businesses and; PSIS CEO Girol Karacaoglu
A weekly programme exploring a range of philosophical, social, historical and environmental ideas.
Ideas is broadcast on Radio New Zealand National at 11:05am on Sunday Morning with Chris Laidlaw
