In the year 2000 it was estimated the world consumed 89 Billion litres of bottled water and the market has been growing at an exponential rate since then.
Its big business - with an estimated $100 Billion spent on bottled water every year.
This week on Ideas we take a look at the industry both in New Zealand and Internationally.
Fiji Water is one of America's most popular bottle water brands - President Obama drinks it as does a roll call of Hollywood's most photographed. We talk to New York journalist Anna Lenza about the company and its claim to be carbon negative.
And we hear from:
Mark Smith, the owner of Auckland's specialist water shop Aquadeli;
Auckland University psychology professor Keith Petrie, and:
The Good Water Company CEO Grant Hall.
