Slade - Alive!

In 1972 Slade were riding a wave of top 20 UK hits, even out charting The Beatles. Having moved on from their skinhead days as Ambrose Slade, they shortened their name, grew their hair long and embraced glam rock with platform boots, sequins and satin.

Their raw and raucous live show was built out of years on the pub rock circuit where they refined their glam rock sound. Equal parts Little Richard rock'n'roll and Mark Bolan boogie, with their adopted cocky abbreviated song titles and chanting crowd-pleasing anthems, they were huge in 1972 - 'Get Down and Get With It'.

'Matinee Idle is Radio New Zealand's Mufti Day. They let me and Simon "loose in the asylum". We get to be the guys testing the outer limits of listener patience and we benignly abuse this privilege.' says O'Brien. 'They let us play whatever we want! It's every radio presenter's dream.'
