Dozens of people have spent the night out of their central Wellington apartments because engineers are concerned a multi-storey carpark on Courtenay place could collapse if there's a big aftershock
The Reading Cinemas carpark building on Courtenay Place has suffered structural damage, and engineers say it may have to be demolished.
Mary McIntyre says she had only moments to pack a bag and leave.
"Luckily my niece was coming in through the door and they didn't know anyone was living there so she came up and told us."
