In an election year, bold claims and insults are not unusual, but yesterday at Rātana pā there was a surprising exchange between veteran politician Winston Peters and newcomer Gareth Morgan.

Speaking on the marae atea, Mr Morgan, who has launched a new Opportunities Party, questioned support for Winston Peters and New Zealand First.
"I cannot understand why Maori don't stand up and call Winston out for being nothing more than an Uncle Tom, an envoy of the kiwi not iwi fringe."
