The stepbrother of Cabinet Minister Nikki Kaye could face the death penalty after being charged with first-degree murder in California.
Twenty-nine-year-old Clinton Thinn was arrested last June after a bank robbery that went wrong.
He's currently being held at George Bailey Detention Facility in San Diego on charges relating to the robbery, and also faces a murder charge that is understood to stem from a killing in the jail.
Nikki Kaye has told us "this is a difficult and sad time for all those affected by what has happened".
She says that as the matter is before the courts, she'll make no further comment.
