Nelson MP Nick Smith has complained to police after rat poison was allegedly rubbed on his face and clothes on Saturday.
Meanwhile on Monday morning, a statue showing the Environment Minister squatting over a glass of water, made by artist Sam Mahon, has been delivered to Environment Canterbury headquarters in Christchurch.
Mr Smith says the artwork is "crass".
"I think there are smarter ways that people can express themselves without being offensive, but politics gives you a pretty thick skin so I'm not too bothered by it."
