Hurricane Irma hits Atlantic islands with 295km/h winds

From Morning Report, 7:15 am on 7 September 2017

Hurricane Irma has ripped through the islands of Antigua and Barbuda, with winds of up to 295km/h.

It's the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane ever, has destroyed buildings and caused major flooding on several Caribbean islands.

Correspondent in Florida Steve Mort tells us a lot of those islands are under-developed but with large populations, so a lot of devastation is expected by rescuers as they head there.
