Greens propose carbon tax, dividends for NZers

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 11 September 2017

The Green Party wants to charge carbon polluters, and use the funds to pay people in the regions to plant a billion trees.

The tax on farm emissions would be to the tune of 6 percent of the average dairy farm's profit.

And anything left over after paying the tree planters will go into the pockets of every New Zealander over 18 in the form of an estimated annual $250 dividend.

Greens leader James Shaw tells us New Zealand has to do its part to limit greenhouse gases, and says in terms of fighting climate change, the small countries are "leading the charge".
