Final leaders' debate a subdued showdown

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 21 September 2017

With just two days to go before New Zealand goes to the polls, National has surged ahead of Labour in RNZ's Poll of Polls. National has a 44 percent average, compared with Labour, at 40 percent. The Greens are now clear of the 5 percent threshold, with 6.4 percent, but New Zealand First continues its slide, sitting just above 5 percent. At last night's debate both Jacinda Ardern and Bill English agreed the election would be close and that the volatile polling pointed to there being a lot of undecided voters who would be making up their minds in the final days of the campaign.
