Havelock North gastro costs $21m, compensation boost unlikely

Last year's water-contamination crisis cost each Havelock North household more than $2400 in lost wages, extra cleaning and time off work. A new Ministry of Health report says the total cost of the gastro outbreak in August last year was just over $21 million. A $200,000 compensation fund for those who suffered financially from the outbreak has received 37 applications, and there are calls for that fund to be boosted.
