Auckland Council urged to 'be brave' with Maori seat

From Morning Report, 8:35 am on 28 September 2017

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council's chair Doug Leeder is encouraging his colleagues in Auckland to "be brave" and embrace Maori wards. Auckland Councillors will decide today whether to pursue creating a dedicated Maori seat. Mayor Phil Goff will not support the move, according to his spokesperson, and some councillors who back the idea want a law change first. Bay of Plenty Regional Council has had three Maori wards since 2004, and Mr Leeder joins us now.
