US firefighters face new outbreaks in California wildfires

From Morning Report, 7:36 am on 12 October 2017

US firefighters battling wildfires in California's wine country face the prospect of new outbreaks today, when dry, windy conditions return to the region. At least 17 people have been killed in out-of-control blazes and more than 100 are missing. Two thousand homes and businesses across 48,000 hectares have also been destroyed in the north of the state, best known for its wine country. Entire districts of Santa Rosa north of San Francisco have been destroyed. Gusts of up to 80km/h with 10 percent humidity are forecast for Thursday and Friday, but US correspondent Rachel Silverman tells us for now, the wind is holding back.
