Remember Labour's alleged $11 billion hole in its policy costings? National said one thing on it, Labour, and practically every economist asked about it, said something else. Could the answer be to have someone to make an independent assessment of party's election manifestos and tell the public if they add up or not? The Institute of Economic Research wants a Parliamentary Commissioner before the next election to do just that. It says voters should have better information about Budgets and election policies.
