Greens win on transport, lose on climate in govt deal

The policy concessions extracted from Labour by the Greens and New Zealand First for their support of Jacinda Ardern's new government. Policy wins for the Greens include a refocussing of transport funding away from roads and into investment in rail, cycling and walking - including light rail from the Auckland city centre to the airport, which will be paid for by scrapping the East-West motorway link. But some of the Green's environmental goals appear to have been watered-down to meet the demands of New Zealand First - there'll be no water charges for farmers and while farming is likely to be brought into the Emissions Trading Scheme, they will have to pay just five percent of the cost of their emissions.
