'I knew he was capable of murder' - victim of Malcolm Rewa

One of serial rapist Malcolm Rewa's victims is welcoming a bid to put him on trial again for the murder of Susan Burdett. Ms Burdett was killed in 1992 and Rewa was tried twice for the crime. Neither jury was able to reach a verdict and a stay of prosecution was issued by the Attorney-General. Yesterday the Crown filed papers in the High Court at Auckland to have the stay of prosecution lifted. Rhonda McHardy was raped by Malcolm Rewa just two weeks before Susan Burdett was raped and killed. She tells Mihingarangi Forbes she knew Rewa was capable of murder.
