Barrister doubts third Rewa trial for Burdett murder

From Morning Report, 8:14 am on 23 November 2017

Legal history will be made if the police can successfully argue the serial rapist Malcolm Rewa should be put on trial for a third time for the murder of Susan Burdett in 1992. Teina Pora was also charged with murder and was wrongly convicted. He was exonerated and paid compensation for the 20 years he spent in jail. Yesterday papers were filed in the High Court at Auckland seeking to reverse "a stay of proceedings" against Rewa that was issued after a jury for a second time failed to return a verdict on the murder charge. Barrister Nigel Hampton QC explains the case to us.
