Unions support work, but not for the dole

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 4 December 2017

Unions are querying Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones' idea to make beneficiaries work for the dole.

Mr Jones told TVNZ's Q+A the government would top up dole payments to working beneficiaries so they'd be paid the minimum wage.

He suggested suitable work would include planting trees, but won't say what will happen to people who refuse to work. NZ Council of Trade Unions president Richard Wagstaff joins us to discuss the idea.
