'Oil companies need to be history' - Russel Norman

The Prime Minister's pledge not to grant new mining permits on conservation land leaves the door open for oil and gas exploration on land not controlled by the Department of Conservation. Jacinda Ardern says that's part of the government's plan to transition the economy away from a reliance on fossil fuels. But Greenpeace says that if the government is serious about tackling climate change, no new permits should be granted at all. Its executive director Russel Norman tells Guyon Espiner if oil companies lose some money, so be it.
