Road police numbers drop as road toll climbs

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 22 January 2018

The number of police on New Zealand roads has been slashed since 2013, coinciding with a 50 percent increase in the road toll. Even though the police received a multi-million dollar payment in April to boost road police numbers, the head count has increased by only ten, leaving more than 100 jobs still vacant. In 2017, 380 people died on New Zealand roads.
