Auckland Council stalls report, blames election sensitivities

From Morning Report, 7:26 am on 19 March 2018

Top executives at Auckland Council stalled the release of a major report for political convenience in a move that could be in breach of official information law. Email exchanges within the council show executives discussing how to handle RNZ's request to obtain a report which looked at shifting the port's huge vehicle import trade to either Whangarei or Tauranga. In one email a senior manager observes it "might not be helpful" having the report made public during last year's election campaign. RNZ Auckland correspondent Todd Niall has been going through the emails.
