Mt Eden church hall remains quake prone

From Morning Report, 8:53 am on 27 April 2018

A derelict church hall in Mt Eden has had no strengthening done on it five weeks after engineers said it needed immediate work. The heritage-listed St James hall is in the middle of a bitter tug of war between those who want it saved, and the Presbyterian Church and a developer which wants to build apartments on the expensive land. In March we reported the Presbyterian church had sent an extrordinary letter to Auckland Council, warning lives were at risk and demanded footpaths be closed and neighbouring houses evacuated. Instead the council asked for different engineers to investigate. RNZ reporter Phil Pennington has obtained Tonkin and Taylor's report.
