Petone metal factory fire causes chaos, clouds of smoke

A fire at a metal factory in Petone is causing traffic issues in the Capital. Motorists are being advised to avoid Seaview Road while firefighters battle the blaze. No-one has been reported injured, but nearby businesses have been evacuated as a precaution. A Fire Service spokesman Carlos Dempsey says emergency services started receving multiple calls just before 7am. RNZ reporter Jonathan Mitchell is at the fire cordon. He talks to Philippa Tolley.
