Maori want lead role in partnership to cut benefit numbers

Maori leaders say Maori must be in charge of any partnership between the government and Iwi in order to cut the dependency of Maori on benefits. In its major report released last month, the Welfare Working Group recommended that a formal partnership between Iwi leaders and the government be set up to tackle the high numbers of Maori on benefits.
