A careers advisor in the Far North says some Maori students are abandoning dreams of taking science and medical degrees - because their whanau can't afford to pay for their children to live away from home; Meanwhile, Te Ohu Rata O Aotearoa - the Maori Medical Practitioners Association - says the accommodation costs are clearly blocking some young Maori from going on to train to work in medicine; An investigation into the Ministry of Education's handling of school closures and mergers is being applauded by a Christchurch kura - which says it's feeling like it's finally being listened to; Large Maori owned farms in the King Country are struggling through the drought with no real pasture growth occurring, except for that created by morning mildew.
