The first ever Ladyfest, nine years ago in Olympia, Washington featured Niko Case, Sleater-Kinney, Sarah Dougher, and Cat Power for a festival that celebrates visual arts, writing, and especially music by women. The concept has taken on a life of it's own. Now Ladyfests are held all around the world, including in December 2009 in Wellington. Music 101 presenter Kirsten Johnstone went along to see six bands, including punky duo Piece War, Diana Rozz, who describe themselves as Diana Ross at an AC/DC concert, and the ever lovely and talkative Sami Sisters.
