WOMAD 2010

Saturday 13 March 2010

Host Kirsten Johnstone, producer Emma Smith and reporter Trevor Reekie were at the Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth for a weekend of music, art, dance, food, and conversation from all over the globe - Tibet, Jamaica, France, Finland, Israel, Cuba, Africa, Australia and Aotearoa.

Over three hours they heard from the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - a band of bros from Chicago who were taught horns by their father; Babylon Circus from France, who where expected to bring a bit of a trouble-making element to the festival judging from the way they were swigging back the red wine the night before; the voice of the Sahara - Mariem Hassan -  who sings about her people exiled in refugee camps in Algeria, and much more over the course of the live broadcast.
