A Pākehā chap from colonial Christchurch and a Māori wahine from the East Coast might not at first appear to have much in common. But musicians Dudley Benson (Ngāti Pākehā) and Maisey Rika (Te-Whānau-ā-Apanui) share a love for the natural world, which shapes their sense of identity and belonging. Moreover, it is this connection to the land, their music seems to suggest, that has the power to bridge the gap between cultures and perhaps help to heal the wounds of the past.
