Chris Rigby was there at the birth of extreme metal in New Zealand, playing in Christchurch death metal and grindcore band Convulsion in the early 90s.
Rigby has been a promoter and musician, and his Subcide zine (which continues on in web-form today) was one of the earliest publications to document extreme metal at home.
Rigby has also played in extreme metal bands Meat Yard and Chapel of Gristle, and today is one-half of industrial metal duo Dying of the Light.
