Death and the Maiden

From RNZ Music, 2:40 pm on 28 March 2015

Death And the Maiden by Natalie

Dunedin might be best known for its guitar bands, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find the gothic southern city has a lot to offer the dancefloor too.

One of the latest and greatest offerings is Death and The Maiden, named after the Edvard Munch painting, rather than The Verlaines hit of the same name.

Taking cues from the clubs of Berlin, and Dunedin’s well loved mid-winter raves, the trio of Hope Robertson, Lucinda King and Danny Brady have just released their dark, propulsive debut long player through Fishrider Records.

You might recognise Danny from Though Creature, Danny and Hope from one of Snapper’s final line ups, or Hope and Lucinda from Bad Sav. But as Hope, Lucinda and Danny explained to Emma Smith, their musical journey started much even earlier.
