Groundbreaking indie rock band The Pixies formed in 1986, released four hugely influential albums, and were broken up by 1993. Lead singer Charles Thompson (known by his stage name Black Francis) and bassist and singer Kim Deal never really saw eye to eye.

So the 2004 reunion of the Pixies was an unlikely one. Then they surprised everyone further by recording a new album, seemingly determined not to fall into the ‘nostalgia’ trap.

Since then, Kim Deal has left the band and been replaced by Paz Lenchantin, who we spoke to late last year about the latest Pixies album. The band are on their way to NZ now, and Tim Glasgow got drummer David Lovering on the line.

Pixies will kick off their 2017 New Zealand tour at Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena on March 9, followed by Wellington’s TSB Arena on March 10 and Auckland’s Vector Arena on March 11.
