New Zealand Musicians in Berlin
The traditional kiwi O.E. in London seems to be so 'last decade' for a large group of New Zealand musicians. Attracted by the rich culture and dirt-cheap rent, several local acts are currently calling the German capital home. Despite barely a word of German being spoken among them, the kiwi mafia seems to be getting its message across. Julie Hill speaks to New Zealand emigres An Emerald City, the Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band, Ginger Brown and label manager Nigel Braddock in Berlin, and finds herself at a gig appropriately named A Kiwi Invasion.
