MGMT - Congratulations
MGMT were thrust onto the international stage with the release of their 2007 album Oracular Spectacular, some would argue too soon. Their live shows received luke-warm reviews from critics for the first couple of years, including in New Zealand. By 2010's album 'Congratulations' the hype had calmed down, and the pressure was off a little for songwriters Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. They've just released a live EP 'Qu'est-ce que c'est la vie, chaton?', recorded over a few nights at the Bataclan in Paris, testament to how the sound of the band has matured. Kirsten Johnstone of Music 101 speaks to Ben Goldwasser ahead of MGMT's New Zealand shows in March 2011.
