In the past five years, Singer Songwriters New Plymouth has played an important part in the resurgence of original music in Taranaki. Once a month they present up to 20 performers to packed houses at the New Plymouth Little Theatre. Singer Songwriters has built a strong musical community that crosses genres and age groups. It has spawned many bands and musical collaborations and has its own weekly local radio show. This month, helped by funding from the Taranaki Arts Community Trust, Singer Songwriters launches Volume 5 in its annual compilation CD series. Music reporter Andy Bassett spoke to founders Dave Ritchie Smith and Anand Rose, and to some of the key players.
