She's A Mod: Ray Columbus and The Mint Chicks

From Music 101, 2:00 pm on 10 October 2009

Written by Terry Beale and performed by his Birmingham, U.K. band The Senators in 1964, 'She's A Mod' was first made famous in Australasia by Ray Columbus and the Invaders that same year.

The song has also been covered by New Zealand bands The Terrorways  - as heard on the classic NZ punk album AK79 - and hip hop crew Double J and Twice the T, who gave it a rap-remix in 1989.

Now The Mint Chicks bring a 'troublegum' verson to celebrate Ray Columbus and the Invaders Legacy Award and induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame at the 2009 NZ Music Awards.

Radio New Zealand music reporter Sam Wicks talks to Ray Columbus about the song's long-lasting local appeal, and goes behind the scenes as The Mint Chicks work on their version ahead of the awards ceremony.
